Allyship Roundtable Review

Sep 20, 2022

Premier Partnership’s Active Allyship roundtable explored the topic of active allyship and menopause awareness.

During the session, a panel of speakers offered insight and solutions for organisations to consider on the subjects.

The first panel member was Dionne Lewis-Reid, EDI Trainer, Speaker, Advocate and Empowerment Coach who gave us an insight into active allyship and how to provide a safe and encouraging space to explore allyship and what it means to be an active ally.

Dionne took us through the differences between allyship and active allyship and demonstrated the allyship continuum which can be seen below:

The importance of allyship was then covered and a review of actions, focusing on individual, interpersonal and structural looking how we, as allies, model good behaviour and push for change.

We were also joined by Fay Reid, Menopause Advocate, Coach and Trainer who gave us a very interesting session looking at menopause awareness to define the menopause and its stages, and identified that research has shown that for many years women have not felt supported in work when it comes to the menopause. They either kept quiet and struggled or left work.

This has led to the conclusion that companies are losing valuable skills and knowledge, where they are not supporting their staff. As a result, in 2021, Employment Tribunal cases citing discrimination regarding the Menopause, had increased by 44%.

We have made a recording of the session so you can revisit the topics and speakers in more depth as well as sharing with colleagues:

Premier Partnership have developed a suite of courses to deal with many aspects of allyship and inclusion. Our key aim to create a safe and inclusive culture through allyship by raising awareness and challenging norms, and to that end, we have been working with our experienced partners to develop and create a suite of courses that can support organisations across this complex subject.

Courses in the programme currently being developed and delivered by experts in the respective fields include How to be an Active Ally, Menopause Awareness, Identifying and Challenging Bias, Impostor Syndrome, Race, Racism and Ethnicity Awareness, LGBTQ+ Awareness, Male Mental Health, Transgender Awareness, Women’s Allyship and Neurodiversity.

Organisations can choose the learning that suits them as a mix-and-match or modular option to focus on the key requirements within their own business areas, our courses are flexible, available as either face to face or virtual delivery.
