Practical Use of a Fire Extinguisher (including Live Fire)

Course Information

To provide learners with an understanding of the different types of extinguishers and the fire classification each may be used for. It also provides learners with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, learning how to deploy a range of extinguishers safely and effectively in fighting a live fire under supervision.

By the end of the course learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the fire triangle
  • Understand the different fire classifications
  • Understand the merits, uses and limitations of the various types of fire extinguishers
  • Use the PASS techniques for extinguishing fires using current model extinguishers

  • Explore company policy and legal outlines on the management of sharps
  • Understand what to do if you suffer a puncture injury
  • Understand how to store and dispose of sharps and needlesticks
