Managing Hybrid Teams

Feb 09, 2022

On Tuesday 1st Feb, Premier Partnership hosted another free roundtable event for our clients, exploring the topic of managing hybrid teams. A panel of speakers offered insight into their findings, each discussing challenges and solutions for organisations to consider when working hybrid.

The first panel member was Liz Spratt, head of research for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Liz stressed the importance of accidental managers getting the right training and also reported that 75% of managers feel that their organisational Hybrid Working policy is not well defined, which leaves gaps managers must fill and direction they have to interpret.

Second was Gareth Buckeridge from Derby City Council who detailed the holistic response the council took to manage hybrid working at an organisational level and spoke about the training Premier Partnership provided their leaders to meet strategic objectives.

Finally, our good friend Hazel Standbridge wrapped up the session and reflected on what she had seen from her experiences in business change consultancy and delivering training to leaders that are preparing to manage hybrid teams. One key takeaway was the consideration managers will have to give for the reasons staff to come into the office, how the space is managed and the importance that mindsets and purpose for those visits are altered.

We have made a recording of the session so you can revisit the topics and speakers in more depth as well as sharing with colleagues:

To conclude the session, we informed the group about a flexible modular learning product Premier Partnership are developing for Managers of Hybrid Teams. The product will consist of bitesize modules that can be bundled together, so the learning experience managers receive, will be a tailored course that takes into consideration existing skills as well as capacity and experience. Kyle Hughes, Client Relationship Director says ‘Hosting the event for so many of our clients was a privilege and a good indication that this will be an in-demand requirement for them moving forward. We look forward to supporting our clients as they navigate what hybrid working means for them and other business challenges they face with learning and development. We would like to extend our gratitude to the panel members, all providing alternative and insightful insights into this important subject’.

Are you ready for the Protection of Premises Act?

Last week, Parliament passed the long-awaited Protection of Premises Act, formerly known as Martyn’s Law, marking a significant step forward in the UK’s approach to counter-terrorism and public safety. The Act introduces new legal duties for those responsible for publicly accessible locations to consider the threat of terrorism and implement proportionate and practical measures to keep the public safe. Central to the legislation is the requirement for robust training and preparedness plans tailored to the level of risk associated with the premises.
