Writing Effective Reports

Overview
To enable participants to take a structured approach to writing effective reports which are concise, easy to read, achieve their purpose and are appropriate for the intended audience.
Learning
- Demonstrate how to adapt reports according to their audience and their needs
- Write reports which are accurate, meaningful, factual and support decision making
- Identify the ‘what, who, why’ when writing reports
- Outline the purpose of the report and structuring it, with appropriate analysis, in order to meet the writer’s aims
- Identify the critical parts required in a report and how they fit together
- Construct compelling written arguments
- Identify what is appropriate for appendices and annexes
- Write without ambiguity
- Outline the importance of using plain English
- Outline the importance of correct grammar and punctuation
- Outline the importance of proofreading and demonstrate a staged approach
Assessment
Qualitative assessment by tutor (For example: observations or demonstrations throughout course)
