Mental Capacity Act Refresher

The object of this course is to:
Remind delegates of the provisions of the Act
Explore how the 2014 House of Lords report on the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act affects their work
Review and discuss various cases which have come before the Court of Protection
Confirm understanding of their legal responsibilities under the MCA and the implications for their practice and that of their staff / team
Be able to apply the principles of the MCA when providing care services.
By the end of the session delegates will be able to:
- Describe the links between the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding Adults and the Human Rights Act
- Explain how to apply the judgments of the Court of Protection to similar cases that have arisen, or might arise, in their own work settings
- Translate the principles of the Act into everyday situations
- Record capacity assessments, using the appropriate organisational paperwork and procedures
- Express the importance of keeping accurate and appropriate records in relation to all aspects of the Mental Capacity Act
- Appraise their knowledge of the various elements of the Act and forthcoming changes.
