LGBTQ+ Awareness

Overview

To raise awareness of the challenges faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ+) community in the workplace and in their personal lives. The course will provide delegates with an understanding of gender identity, LGBTQ+ terminology, relevant legislation and human rights to enable them to actively support and promote LGBTQ+ awareness.

Learning

By the end of this workshop delegates will be able to:

• Understand the key terms such as gender identity and sexual diversity.
• Correctly use LGBTQ+ terminology.
• Understand relevant legislation to support members of the LGBTQ+ community in work and in life including The Equality Act 2010.
• Take responsibility and work as an Ally to promote an inclusive working environment.

Qualitative assessment by tutor (For example: observations or demonstrations throughout course)

Some participants may find certain content distressing. Individuals are encouraged to prioritise their wellbeing and may take a break or step away from the session at any time. Support is available through internal organisational channels and external professional services. Pre-work required – Self-reflection around what we think we know and how we understand sexuality and gender identity. (Document prior to the course will be sent)
