Level 2 Diploma for Sustainable Waste Management Operative

Course Information

This qualification is ideal for new entrants to the industry or experienced workers that want recognition that they possess the competence required to work at an operative level within the waste and resource management industry. This qualification is ideal for people seeking entry to the waste and resource management sector, or those who are already working and require evidence of their competence.

It is a flexible qualification that can be tailored to meet the requirements of specific job roles in the sector or within a particular organisation – these job roles include:

  • Waste/ recycling operative
  • Transfer station operative
  • Compost operative
  • Household waste recycling operative
  • Manual/mechanical street cleaner
  • Waste/ recycling collection driver
  • Qualification Structure

  • To achieve this qualification, learners must complete 10 units. This will require them to complete: • All the units in Group A (the mandatory group).
  • One unit from Group B.
  • Any three units from the remaining Groups ensuring that at least one of the Units is at Level 2 and in doing so complying with any restrictions associated with groups C, D and E should you choose any units from these groups to count towards your optional total.
  • Learners must complete all mandatory units designed to improve team working skills, develop knowledge of health, safety and emergency procedures, and develop the skills to work productively. Learners can then select units which reflect activities they undertake within their current or prospective job role, such as: team leadership, weighbridge operation, processing waste, collecting waste, or transporting waste. These optional units ensure that learners have the knowledge and skills to accept, validate, handle, and load different types of waste, while maintaining equipment and delivering services to a high standard.

    To provide essential safety information for staff at risk from sharps and blood bourne viruses.
